Dear Subrosasoft,
I rarely do this, but I felt the need to email you guys to tell you how ecstatic I am about having used copycatx. Last week I had formatted my backup drive in preparation for a new fresh backup system but I wasn't ready to back up yet so I let it sit. Then, during the only 24 hour period of the last several years that I did *not* have a backup available, my laptop's hard drive completely blew itself up. Figures.
Apple's Disk Utility complained about bad B-trees and inodes, and the drive wouldn't mount and made weird noises. S.M.A.R.T. status failed on it. I was desperate and let Disk Warrior run for a few days, but it couldn't complete. I saw someone mention CopyCatX and bought it yesterday. Last night I was able to make a nearly complete bit-for-bit copy of the volume, even though the drive kept losing its connection (the Resume feature in Recover mode is about the greatest thing in the world ever!)
I did lose some directory structure, but the vast majority of my data is now safely off the failing drive and I won't need data recovery services. Dozens of gigs of photos from my trip to Asia would have been lost forever. Best $50 I've spent in a long long time. Please pass this on to your engineers and programmers. Even those of us with good backup habits can be hit by extremely bad luck.
You guys saved me.
Sincere Thanks,
Christopher Faulk
